Abstract
This study investigates the effectiveness of social protection policies in eradicating poverty in Namibia, with a focus on policy design, implementation, and impact. Namibia has implemented various social protection mechanisms, including the National Pension Fund, social grants for children and individuals with disabilities, and the Food Bank initiative. These policies aim to reduce poverty and inequality by providing essential financial support and ensuring food security for the most vulnerable populations. The research approach employed in this study is a qualitative approach as it focuses on exploring and understanding the meanings that individuals or groups attribute to a social or human problem. The researcher aimed to extract meaning from 12 participants' perspectives and engaged in an interactive process, emphasising an inductive style and the significance of presenting the complexity of the situation. The researcher recorded all the interviews and took handwritten notes as backup information. The researcher conducted a careful comparison between the recorded and transcribed interviews to verify accuracy. Data were analysed using thematic analysis and the ATLAS.ti software. Findings reveal that while social protection policies have significantly contributed to poverty reduction and improved living standards for many Namibians, several challenges and gaps remain. Coverage of informal sector workers is inadequate, benefits are often insufficient to meet the rising cost of living, and there is a lack of a comprehensive strategy to address the root causes of poverty, such as unemployment and underemployment. The study concludes that enhancing the effectiveness of social protection policies in Namibia requires expanding coverage to include marginalised groups, increasing benefit amounts, and integrating these policies with broader developmental initiatives such as skills training and employment generation. Recommendations for policymakers include policy reforms, innovative approaches to coverage expansion, and improved administrative efficiency
