An investigation of the impact of Namibia’s efforts in ensuring regional integration within Southern African Development Community (SADC)

Abstract

This research presents a comprehensive evaluation of Namibia's role in regional integration within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), employing a mixed-methods approach to gather and analyze data. By integrating both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, the study provides a robust analysis of Namibia's initiatives. Participants, drawn from key organizations such as the SADC Secretariat, Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation (MIRCO), Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade (MIT), and the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), offered insights into the effectiveness of these initiatives. Convenience sampling, a non-probability method, allowed for the selection of participants based on their accessibility, while semi-structured interviews facilitated an in-depth understanding of the officials' perspectives. This flexible data collection method helped uncover Namibia's contributions to economic integration, particularly in enhancing regional production, trade networks, and the overall capacity of SADC member states. The study underscores Namibia’s significant progress in regional economic integration and concludes with strategic recommendations. It emphasizes that Namibia should focus on bolstering productive, distributive, and marketing capacities across SADC to strengthen regional ties and promote sustainable economic growth.
