Abstract

The purpose of the study was to assess and describe knowledge and skills of nurses regarding resuscitation in emergency department, IHK, Windhoek. The researcher objective were to assess the level of knowledge and skill of nurses regarding resuscitation in emergency department and describe the level of knowledge and skills of the nurses regarding resuscitation. A quantitative, descriptive design was chosen for this study. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize and explain the study's findings. . In this study, structured observation was used to assess the skills and knowledge of nurses employed in the emergency room at IHK in Windhoek, Namibia. One of the most helpful organizational tools in this study was the checklist, which made it easier for the researcher to complete her tasks quickly and easily. The 55 nurses who work in the IHK emergency room in Windhoek were the study's target population. For the purposes of this study, the population and sample are identical. The population and sample for this study are the same since there aren't many nurses working in hospital A's emergency room in Windhoek, Namibia. Male participants received 84%, while female participants received 70%, based on the grading scale in the check list. 57% of the training participants were male. 48% of women have received training. Furthermore, 51% of participants have a certificate and have taken BLS training. 60% of nurses with a nursing science diploma have completed BLS training. In conclusion, 55% of nurses with nursing science degrees received BLS attendant training. The majority of nurses did not complete BLS resuscitation training, the research found. However, nurses demonstrated remarkable clinical proficiency and competence when it came to assessing their ability to offer patient care utilizing CPAP machines. However, nurses lack the requisite skills and competencies in a number of sectors. Chest compressions, two-person CPR demonstration, insertion of oral and nasopharyngeal airways during resuscitation, proper suctioning, participating in a cardiac arrest event, initiating cardiac monitoring, recognizing cardiac rhythm, correctly using the ECG, and applying paddles are all skills they need to improve. Nurses should regularly participate in training programs such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) to enhance their resuscitation skills.
