Abstract

The rapid expansion of the call centre industry has intensified the need for effective mental health interventions due to the high-stress nature of the work. This research focuses on the impact of psychological counselling on employee well-being, job satisfaction, and productivity within call centres, with a specific emphasis on Multichoice Namibia. The study explore s how regular counselling sessions can mitigate stress, prevent burnout, and enhance job performance among call centre employees. It also identifies common mental health issues prevalent in this sector, such as burnout, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder, and examines the barriers that hinder employees from accessing psychological counselling, including stigma, lack of awareness, and financial constraints. Utilizing theoretical frameworks such as the Person-Environment Fit theory, Social Support Theory, and Self-Determination Theory, the research highlights the importance of aligning counselling services with employees' needs and providing essential social support. The study finds that psychological counselling significantly improves employee well-being, job satisfaction, and productivity by addressing the specific mental health challenges faced by call centre employees. The research concludes with recommendations for implementing effective psychological counselling programs. These recommendations emphasize the need for affordable, culturally sensitive, and accessible counselling services, strategies to reduce stigma, and efforts to increase awareness about the benefits of counselling. By overcoming the identified barriers and adopting comprehensive counselling approaches, organizations can foster a supportive work environment, ultimately leading to improved employee performance and organizational success.
